MARIA LUISA S. DEFANTE-GIBRALTAR was born at January 31, 1944 her short story was first published in Hiligaynon magazine when she was only 19 years old and a young teacher in elementary. She graduated in La Consolacion College. Since 1976, she stayed and taught in Guimbal, Iloilo, the place where his husband Ciriaco Gibraltar lives. 

A daughter, mother, teacher and a writer. 

"I write because I love to to write". 

Maria Luisa would readily answer when asked why she persisted in writing in spite of her many roles. She could not imagine herself not writing at all.
